Federal mining safety officials will look into a worker fatality at a lime plant in Arkansas.
Authorities say 61-year-old Wilbur Farris was part of a three-person team working on a vacuum rolling grinder at U.S. Lime & Minerals, Inc., in Marble City, AR.
Workers were in the process of locking out the machine when it suddenly turned on. The vacuum sucked Farris into the machine.
It took rescuers two-and-a-half hours to pull apart the machine and recover Farris’ body.
The investigation will focus on whether the machine malfunctioned or if protocol wasn’t followed.
