The owner of a California janitorial company was ordered March 9 to pay back more than $2 million in restitution for committing workers’ compensation and tax fraud.
Almirante Perez, doing business as Southern Pacific Janitorial Group, was ordered to pay $2,407,573 to multiple victims including the state’s Employment Development Department, Republic Underwriters, Berkshire Hathaway and Liberty Mutual.
Perez owned a janitorial business under the Southern Pacific Janitorial Group, and over multiple years he committed fraud by failing to fully insure his employees for workers’ compensation and underreporting his employee payroll, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
On May 18, 2021, Perez was convicted of felony workers’ compensation fraud and placed on probation for the maximum period of two years.
