A federal COVID-19 vaccination mandate will “soon end” since the U.S. government ended the public health emergency on May 11, 2023.
COVID-19 vaccination requirements for workers with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will soon be eliminated, although no date or details have been provided.
Additional guidance from CMS is coming soon, according to law firm Littler Mendelson.
However, the agency continues to support COVID-19 vaccination and encourages healthcare professionals to stay current on their vaccination status.
An important note to this is that the withdrawal of this rule “does not, and will not, prohibit employers from requiring employees to be vaccinated and, absent state-specific requirements, is expected to allow healthcare employers to self-determine whether to require COVID-19 vaccinations, including incorporating the vaccines in existing infectious disease policies.”
