Work-related vehicle fatalities aren’t always at high speeds and on the open road.
A North Carolina man died after being run over by both his pickup and a large dump truck at a landfill.
James Huskey of Waynesville went to the county landfill to dump some trash, according to the Citizen Times.
As he was leaving, a dump truck struck the passenger side of his pickup and pushed it about 90 feet.
Huskey opened his door and stood up in an attempt to alert the dump truck driver. He lost his balance, fell and was run over by his pickup and the dump truck.
The dump truck traveled another 120 feet before a supervisor at the landfill alerted the driver.
Huskey was declared dead at the scene.
An officer with the county sheriff’s department called it “a very freak accident.”
The driver doesn’t face charges because traffic laws don’t apply on private property.
North Carolina OSHA is investigating.

Traffic laws may not apply on private property (unfortunately), but he should be brought up on charges of having his head up is *** and not paying attention. Guess that’s where OSHA comes in.

The owner of the Dump should be sued for not properly seperating heavy equipment traffic and consumer traffic. There was not enough information to know if the Dump Truck was working there or dumping material, if the dump truck was working there that even makes it that much worse. I can not think of many ways to go than being crushed at the Dump!
I also strongly agree with Kyle that the operator had his head elsewhere!!

Strongly suspect everyone (still living) involved will ache in their hearts more than any punishment that our harsh words could deliver.
